Vital Possessions contemplates how city-dwellers negotiate their uneasy relationship with nature in a world where growth is both man-made and natural. The poems question what we see as necessary amid ceaseless consumption and our urban existence.
Marc will be performing poems from the book as well as songs and other monologues
Marc Nair is a poet and photographer from Singapore. He is a recipient of the 2016 Young Artist Award. Marc has published five solo volumes of poetry and has released another four collections in collaboration with visual artists, photographers and graphic artists. A seasoned poetry slammer, he has performed spoken word for over ten years in more than ten countries and has represented Singapore in international poetry slam competitions. He is also a founding member of local spoken word troupe, Party Action People.
Marc was the 2015 Writer-In-Residence at Gardens by the Bay and was the 2016-17 NTU-NAC National Writer in Residence. Marc is also a musician who sets his poems to music. To date, he has released two spoken word albums with his band, Neon and Wonder, and has collaborated with well-known Singapore musicians such as Bani Haykal, weish and Tim De Cotta. He is the co-founder and principal photographer of Mackerel, a culture magazinw and has been working with Lee Kin Mun, aka mrbrown, on the mrbrown show for over a decade, writing satirical sketches and songs.
Marc is also a scriptwriter, creative developer and director for 90 Seconds, T25 Films and Vostok VR. He has worked professionally with clients as diverse as SIA, Republic Poly, Deutsche Bank, Singtel, Agoda and many others.
